Anybody fished a Gheenoe lowtide or others?

I saw alot of these in Florida over the weekend. Has anybody had any experience with them.

This fall looking at taking motor off my alumnacraft jon boat and moving up in small boat. This caught my eye. Can have it with poling platform and not break the bank to fish the Wando.

Thanks for opinions.

I think it is the kind of boat that people either love or hate. They are very popular in Florida (like you said). I see lots of conversation about them on another site. Not sure if that site is in competition with this site so, I’ll send you the link in a PM.

I think they have a pretty good resale value so, if it didn’t work out you could probably git rid of it (in Florida). Good luck.

Thanks.

This is like Christmas. I didn’t know there were so many choices and companies out there for an upgrade of a riveted jon boat.

Upgrade!

I tell people that I am (was) like Charlton Heston. If you want my jon boat “you will have to pry it from my cold dead hands.”

I also have a fiberglass boat but, I will always have a jon boat.

A friend just got a camo Gheenoe and powered it with a Tohatso 9.8 It seems pretty cool. I’ve had my 15 Duracraft for 14 years and you’ll have to pry it from my…</font id=“blue”>

I love my Gheenoe. It’s a 15’6" classic. Super stable and will float in a little more than a puddle of spit. I power it with a 15hp Yamaha 2 stroke and she’ll run 23mph (GPS) with me by myself (200Lbs), or 21.5 w/ my two boys (combine about 150Lbs more). We fish the tidal creeks around Parris Island and out on the Broad as long as wind stays below 10. If the wind or waves are up, it can be a wet ride, but once you figure out the parameters, you’re fine. I’ve run it across the Broad to some of the creeks around Hilton Head and she’s been great. I’m able to pole onto flats with less than 6in of water and go places others can’t. The boat is light and easy to trailer or self launch. An over slot Redfish has enough strength to spin the boat around, which the kids think is pretty exciting. It’s stable enough I can easily move up to help one son with a tangle, or help somebody get unhooked when one brother inevitably hooks the other…

Note there are several color options. I recommend white, or at least white below the water line. When you pole your way through the shallows, you’re bound to find oyster beds and whatever color your Gheenoe may be, it’s white underneath when scratched. I put a keelguard on mine and it helps, but scratches are still likely.

customgheenoe.com and microskiff.com are great resources. The boats can be customized a bazillion ways. Jacksonville. Daytona and Orlando Craig’s Lists usually have boats for sale. I got mine (boat, motor & trailer) for $1700. Couldn’t be happier. Send me a PM if you want to come see it and go for a ride.

I fish a custom classic gheenoe like davesurfs. I fish the Wando primarily and have not had any problems. It can be a wet ride as said above but its very stable. There is plenty of room for two anglers (more if some are kids). The lowtides are supposed to have a much better ride than the classics, so if you can afford it, I would definitely go with one.
