Going to Edisto the week after Father’s day, hoping to put my Wife and Daughter on some BSB’s or some spades. Anyone have any reports or advice. Thanks.
You won’t have any problem finding either for them.
Advice: carry a good reef anchor with plenty of chain. Make sure you have an extra reef anchor in case you have to leave one. Gather some jellyballs on the way out and have fun.
Anchor up where the wind and tide will allow you to fish your chum slick
plenty of BSB , almost too many to catch anything else on bottom , try
live bait near surface for that king or amberjack. Illegal to use a BSB
right now even if it reaches 13 inches - crazy , stupid really.
Yhammer…good advise from those guys. Those Cobia sure love those little BSB’s…thats what I hear:wink:. Carry you a mess of shrimp in case you can’t find any jellies. Those spades will tear those up too. They don’t have to be live either. You got to cover the hook with em’ though, those spades can be skitish.

They dang sure do! Cobia candy
“I swear officer, this BSB just ate the greenie on my hook, he really wasn’t bait”. Might not want any in the livewell while this discussion is happening ![]()
Good advice above on reef anchors, but if the wind and current aren’t too strong you can save a lot of aggravation just by drift fishing. Position the boat over the reef, lower baits, reel in 20 blackfish, then reposition boat. Easier on a green crew, easier on gear. If cobia are there they will come to a drifting boat.
