Anyone else crazy enough...

to throw a cast net from their yak? My 3 footer is a piece of cake to throw either sitting or standing. The 5 footer is a bit of a challenge sitting and I have to be REALLY careful trying it while standing in the yak. Pretty soon it’ll be to chilly to go for a swim.

Anyone have any tips or tricks??? I know I can get out to throw the net, but a lot of times the shrimp are in deep water.

So much water, So little time

Buddy up with another yaker and secure both yaks together catamaran style with the paddles laid across them and it makes for a very stable platform to fish, shrimp from. Used to do that up in WA state a lot fishing from yaks. Or maybe can try using a paddle float on the end of your paddle lashed to the deck for some more stability.

Im gonna brag a little bit on here about my Yak Shrimpin ability…

I just take out a long baboo pole with me and when I get to my shrimpin spot shove it in the pluff mud and tie off to it. Then stand up on the sides of the Yak (feet about shoulder width apart) and cast my 5 footer and just do circles around my pole. Works pretty well if you just relax and go with flow, and dump your net in the haul of the Yak where your legs go. I havn’t fallin in yet (knock on wood).

My buddy rigged his up with outriggers made out of 4" PVC with plugs in the end. He can walk up and down his Yak without tippin it. You really just need to get out and practice in deep water so I you fall in you wont get stuck in the mud or worse land in some oyster. Once you can master that work inshore and catch some shrimp.
