I’m hoping to find one of these for my son as an aquarium pet. We did catch a lady crab at the beach (shaped like a blue crab, but white with hundreds of small brown dots).
You can buy them online, but supposedly they are native to around here, and catching one would be far more fun than “click” on a website.

Only seen the shells washed up on beaches from time to time. Never seen a live one. Beautiful creatures though.

Talk to some shrimpers, have them save a few for you. I see them inside Cobia all the time

You could probably snag a few if you put crab pots off of the beaches. Used to catch them in the Gulf of the beaches all the time when fishing for stone crabs.
Sellsfish, great idea. Do you have any suggestions on who to call? I don’t know any shrimpers directly except “sorta” the people at the Wando Shrimp Co, and even there it’s just the dude at the cash register.
Fishcrazy, I wouldn’t put my boat out in the open beach, I would sink it in minutes lol. Just a small aluminum. However, I could do it at Breech as long as it’s low tide.

Most likely those were speckled (lady) crabs like this one below. Those are shaped just like a blue crab and very common in our waters. I have one in the aquarium right now, interesting pet. The calico crab I think prefers water a bit deeper than we’ll find directly on the beach.

Hey matt, I’ve seen those normally, but it was definitely calicos that I saw this past weekend cause I had to stop and stare for a minute cause they looked different
Ah, OK. Then I may check out IOP next time I take the family to the beach, thanks bigcountryboy!!
