I was right on top of some shrimp today and had one jump in the yak. I was thinkin if I only had some kind of dip net that is big enough and sinks fast enough. something like the crabbers use but a good bit shorter. Anyone have anything like this?
PS I know you can cast net from a yak.
Dip netting at night is popular in Florida.

I would guess if the weave is tight enough, you had a good size school of bait and were fast enough it might work. I usually carry a 6’ cast net with me. Might look into one a bit smaller.
Keep it simple a Dip Net would just be something else to carry on your Kayak
I use a 4ft 3/8 opening cast net
I am having a real hard time standing up on my 14Ft Malibu Stealth My lower back is hurting me- getting up and down
I have been practicing throwing the cast net sitting on a 5 gallon bucket in the back yard works well I still get it open all the way 50% of the time but I am getting better
Capt Dave
Dave, Have you tried this load? Makes throwing from a sitting position a lot easier.

That is a 5 or 6 footer, don’t remember which as the video is a couple of years old. Forget trying to throw a 10 footer sitting down, you’ll rip your shoulder to pieces.

I picked up a 4’ cast net recently and have been practicing throwing it while sitting in the yak. Too Busy’s vid was definitely a help (thanks) and I think I could manage a bigger net if I wanted to. I use a 7’ when throwing from a bank or dock.
The only problem I had was, I’d watch a school of mullet coming down the creek I was in and I’d pick up my arm to throw and they’d see the movement or the kayak and they’d sound so I’d have to guess where to throw on them. I was getting some but missing a lot.
Hey Captain Dave I’ve had good luck standing on my knees with my six foot, a lot easier than standing when your back is hurting, but I think I’m going to try
Too Busy’s throw, think that would be even better. Cool video thanks
