Anyone Fished Murray This Week?

Just got a call from a friend that’s gonna be in town tomorrow and wants to go out in the morning. Somehow he was able to talk me into it

Anyone been out since the weekend? We’ll only have a couple of hours, so I’m trying to decide if we should even bother with bait or just go riding around looking for schooling fish.

Are the fish at Murry schooling as well as they are at the Hill? If they are are they keepers? Is it a fight to reach the schools before the knucklheads do?

Will let you know tomorrow. Haven’t been out since this weather change. Decided were gonna plan on bait fishing with dr’s and freelines, but we’ll have a couple of top water plugs set up as well in case they come up on top.

I was at the dam launch for lunch on Monday. Three boats came in and had a total of 5 short fish with no keepers. DNR was there checking them. Weather has stabilized since then, so it should be better. Before the front limits of nice keepers were easy to get. It was the best fishing I’ve had since the fish kills a few years ago. I just hope they didn’t start moving up lake.

Yea, no doubt those last few weeks in Sept had to be the best fishing on the lake in years…makes you wonder where all of those keeper size fish had been hiding.

This AM, we marked some fish up by Goat Island shortly after we put in and decided to stop even though we weren’t marking a whole lot, since our time was so limited. Got our rods down, put he trolling motor down and after about 10 min the screen lit up with fish. Picked up a couple, missed a couple and then decided to throw some topwater baits. Even though they weren’t breaking the water they would come up and pounce on our plugs. Got a couple of shorts and 23" and 24" keeper (only keepers of the morning) on top before it all stopped dead after just 10 minutes or so.

Moved back in Ballentine and they were all over on top, but really small fish…maybe 16". Had a blast though catching them for about 20 min and then it was dead and we headed in…back at the ramp at 9:00.

What a great morning to be out on the lake…weather couldn’t have been any nicer…there’s just something special about fishing when you know you are supposed to be at work.
