I have just taken a job in Jenkinsvile. Will be moving that way before the first of the year. I currently live just outside of Walterboro. It has been kind of short notice. My curent job comes to an end in October. It was originally supposed to last until 2017. There are far too many coal fired power plants shutting down, for me to be picky on location.
We are currently looking at the Chapin area. I would love to have any of Ya’lls opinions. I am nervous as a tick, having to leave home. The saltwater has always been my love. Where i can currently put in at Bennetts Point within a half hour drive, now I will be hours…The plus side is; I have 2 daughters, and the schools are far superior to Colleton Counties. Thanks for any opinions that are ofered!
Since you will be working in Jenkinsville, driving from the Chapin area won’t be bad at all. You will be driving away from everyone else. If you were to be working in Columbia, I’d tell you to get your head examined. That drive in every morning would kill me. You are correct, good schools out that way. Moving farther away from salt does indeed suck though it doesn’t mean the end of the world. My saltwater fishing is limited more by kids in sports and scouting. I am in S.East Cola and can be on the water in a little over 2 hours.

I would recommend Lexington 1 area as well if it wasn’t for the extra drive. Those roads can get backed up in the morning.
Whatever you do, try not to be in Richland County. Chapin is a very good area. If you can’t find anything in Chapin I would look at the other side of the lake in Lexington 1. Don’t settle for Richland county like I did. Taxes are high.
Thanks for all the info yall. Blueskyguy, I’m on night shift now so i won’t call you today, but will definitely give you a shout Monday if you are working. I took the boat up to the lake last weekend, just to see what it was like. That was the first I had actually seen Lake Murray; I know thats a shame right. We actually rented a house outside of Lexington, on the Little River. ( I’m pretty sure that was the river name) it was about 25-30 mile boat ride to the (**(). I am so glad to know there are more saltwater guys up this way. I might have to get some info from yall on lake fishing.
Must be Little Saluda River. Sounds like you might be up in the Prosperity, Lexington county area. Nice area, just far from everything. I have a few co workers who really like living up on that part of the lake. Its a long drive to downtown, but if you like quite living, that’s the place to be.
Baseball, football, good schools, great lake fishing, and camping grounds. A heavy republican base up that way as well as is Lexington if it matters to you. Just the opposite in my area of Irmo.
We have a good group of locals on the Striper forum here that fish the lake. We help everyone out with info so if you ever want to learn just start reading in there. Now is starting to get good with schooling fish on topwater. The first time I saw a 50 yard school of striper busting on the surface I was amazed. Reminded me of schooling tarpon in a ball of mullet or Menhaden.
