Got a 12’ Stick It anchor pin. Actually, got it a bit early since I was down at the coast fishing last weekend and my wife said I could pick it up from Haddrells last Sat.
Worked great even when the tide was running pretty good. I’m thinking it should work good in place of a back anchor when cut bait fishing in shallow water in the spring as well.
I got another pair of waterproof neoprene fishing gloves and a nice fishing tool. The tool has scissors, sharp knife, scale, tape, etc. The gloves really come in handy on a cool day like today. Only thing is they should say water resistant. After about 15 fish today they were letting a little water seep inside. Still were pretty warm compared to most others I’ve tried and much better than no gloves at all.
After doing the tx thing this past yr and having to fish in everything from rain, snow, sleet, hail; I decided I needed to concentrate on clothes…ha…inlaws got me the pro qualifier suit from bass pro and I be darned my wife WAS listening earlier in the yr and she got me the 100mph suit…prob gonna take the 100mph suit back or at least the jacket and that should produce some good toys…along with some new head/face wear and New rubber boots and some divers gloves.
I burned mine in the firepit while I grilled chops this evening:sunglasses: … Chip, keep the 100mph suit. I have one and am well satisfied… Off to bed as soon as my laundry’s done. Hitting the road early for the other side of the Blue Ridge:smiley:
Congrats on the Stik-It pin, they are great…at the coast. Good luck sticking it in the bottom of Murray. I have one and in most places it is WAY too hard (too many rocks) to penetrate the bottom. Tight Lines!
I never even thought about that. I really got it for the coast anyway and using it on Murray was just an after thought.
There’s a alot of ways to make something cheaper to do the same thing, but I really liked the way it worked for us. I like how light and flexible it is.
Rick got me cold weather gear, a pair of Costas , some more fish shirts, and the kids got me lures. Rick got lures from his work secret santa, and fishing shirts. RJ got a new pole and his own tackle bag. Technically the trolling motor and new fishfinder were also Xmas for both of us, and another 4 rod/reel combos, and that 3rd set of planers. We also got a bunch of Bass Pro gift cards, from family and work. I think we are about set. Now for a day off so we can USE them!! I guess you could say it was Merry Fishmas around here.
Remember life is short so always remember your Family, Friends, and Fish every chance you get!
I’ve been seriously considering one of those. Did you get the “break” or do you tie off to it?
What I really like is it’s the same basic principal as a Power Pole but $1100.00 cheaper. - lol
I wanted a 12’ and I wouldn’t try that with a brake system. When the tide gets running pretty good the pole will just bend and when you are tied on it’s not an issue. Even if the tide comes up after you set the pole and the T handle is underwater it’s not an issue and you just yank on the rope to retrieve it when you’re ready to leave. With the brake you would just wind up lifting the pole out of the water with the rising tide. There isn’t much give at all and I think you could snap the pin in a lot of current with a 12’ pin.
I think the brake is probably fine for guys who just fish the flats in shallow water. It’s a nice quick, quiet and easy way to hold still around spooky redfish, but I’m not sure it would buy you much if you are looking to use it exclusively on the lake.
I probably won’t be on the lake for a couple of months. You (or anyone else) are welcome to try it out anytime.
As for our Cherokee trip, no pics this year. Nada. The lake came up 3 feet with 44 degree muddy water the 2 @ 1/2 days we were there, and the bite was non-existent. We traveled around 60 miles of water-- downrodding, spoon jerkin’, pulling rigs, planer boarding-- to no avail. Glad to be back in Murray country though we enjoyed the team retreat. That’s fishing!
I got a new tachometer. Looks like I will be getting a late gift too, a new trailer tire. Not very fun but necessary.
Wellcraft V-20 sportfish with a 200 Evinrude
Better to change it in your driveway then on 26 coming back from hartwell…lol…i found Irmo tire has the best price I could find. I went with bias ply. Little cheaper than radial and has a stronger sidewall. They do run a little warmer than radials though. Since putting new ones on mine I have been to the hill and lanier as well as a ton of trips to murray carrying plenty of water weight in the boat and have been very happy with them.

Thanks for the insight Tim. You mentioned some interesting points I never thought of. If/when I get one I’ll hold off on the brake at first.
