Pawayne, we do the same thing. I have been able to go 4 years straight. This will be the fifth. My spot is guaranteed since I am the one with the equipment.

Lol, same here, I have the equipment and the boat.
Boat, equipment and all the time I spend on the water. I won’t get a crack at my favorite pets being in a new zone this year.
I started giving some gators the stink-eye back in May while bass fishing.

My wife hid mine from me until I started calling DNR to find out what happened to my application…just kidding. It got mixed up in some other papers and she just found it this morning. Middle Coastal on the third try but it’s the only area I have ever applied in. Taylor really wants to go. Any opinions on 9 year old daughters and alligators?

Got mine this year for the middle coastal with 3 points. Got my first tag and first gator in the southern coastal in 2010 with 1 point. I have all the equipment but not a good gator gettin’ boat.
What is a good Gator getting boat FishDawg? I have a 19Ft Key West CC and a 14ft Fast Craft (mock of a High Tide)… If either of these are good, PM me. I would be willing to assist for a small fee paid in gator meat.

Do y’all allow outsiders into your group? The reason I ask is I have never applied for a tag because I dont have the know how or a connection to people who do know how to hunt gators successfully other than paying a guide. If you need or want more people in the group, I will apply next year.

We’re filled up. We have five regulars since the first year and three fill in guys here at work that all put in. Sorry. You might as well start applying since it will take at least two years of applying before you get a tag. If you get a tag, I’m sure you would be able to find a group to go with. Those that have gone, are addicted now.

I would not take a 9 year old. If you have a bigger boat (22’ or so) maybe. I’ve had those gators almost take a head off whipping their tail up at us (guy ducked just in time). I’ve also had them lunge up and bite the top of the boat (broke some teeth off in the top of the fiberglass bow) and had one that bit the flat side of the boat hard enough to put a gouge all the way through the fiberglass. They get kinda riled up when they finally realize you aren’t just playing tug a war with em. Maybe if you have a bigger boat and keep her in the middle, away from the sides when the gator gets boatside, but there’s usually a lot to distract you at that time and I wouldn’t be comfortable having to remember to keep an eye on her.

A good boat is flat bottomed with lots of open deck and not too big. Should be able to get into shallow water, too. We got my 11 footer in a 16’ jon boat with a 20hp tiller motor.
