Anyone inshore fishing from a Gheenoe?

I’m looking to get skinny but do it remotely affordably. I keep seeing Gheenoes online but I’m not sure if they’d make sense for the area.

I know they can get skinny, but I wonder if they are to small, tippy for our waters.

Any of y’all fish inshore in one?

I sold 2 that I had and regretted ever selling them. I never came down the main rivers with them but did have to 45 a few wakes from bigger boats in the main creeks. I poked those boats effortlessly in a mere 4" fully loaded and it did everything that I had expected. I believe the River Hawks are much wider and can handle larger HP which would probably reduce a stability concern if you are a larger fellow.

You’ve got to ask your self one question,do I have a good sense of balance. Some do some don’t.A good man has got to know his limitations.

I fish an LT25. Mostly inter coastal and wando. It handles a chop well and drier than a Carolina skiff. Just need to be smart about it. It floats in less than 6”. Boat is very stable. There are several models of gheenoe a out there.

I’ve been fishing on one before with another guy. It’s 2 people max and you get in and stay in your spot. It was a nice little fishing rig though and had everything you’d need.

I have an older Gheenoe, have had it over 20 years. Just under 16’ and although primarily used in tidal creeks back in MD, tribs of the Chesapeake, have fished with it in the Pawley’s Island area. I very much agree with what Surf or Fish and Suckerpunch said. It’s stable enough, but won’t be like fishing from a wider type of craft.

My one brother & I have fished together in mine, he’s 6’3" about 270 and I’m 6’4" around 240. I installed swivel seats with 8" posts under them on the bench seats and we sat and paddled and fished. When I was younger (I’m 63 now) I could stand up & fly cast from it, could probably still do that, but just as easy to sit.

The biggest issue that I have is when fishing alone, is wind. I paddle mine & wind makes it tough to handle sometimes. I’ve dealt with boat wakes from bass boats, and that can also be tricky when alone, but wind is my nemesis. I installed a two anchor system that can be released from one seat, one fore & one aft.

As far as getting skinny, I’ve had it in 3-4" with two of my boys with me when we were all younger. They’re all grown now & also large men, so two in the Gheenoe is the limit.

I also have a 16’ jon boat and it’s a more stable craft than the Gheenoe, and allows moving around on it. It also needs a trailer to move it around. I can still put the Gheenoe in the bed of my pickup. It’s heavy and as I get older it’s getting tougher to do. With how I rig mine, with the seats & posts, it’s probably over 200 lbs total. I have a small trailer for it, like those that Harbor Freight sells, and that worked great when I used it, but required tags & such ( in MD). Wouldn’t need tags here in SC.

My Gheenoe is now one of my projects. It’s in need on some repairs & up grades.
