We keep a Shearline out at St. Johns Yacht Harbor…Would like to run out from there to cut off time from going through the cut and out of harbor…Anyone have any advice? We watched a sporty blow through there last summer coming from Folly, but it was obvious he knew the route and knew how to get out. Thanks!
why not just run from North Edisto ?
Boat owner lives right by stono inlet. We can be outside in 5 minutes if we can make it through there. Have private dock right in Stono if needed.
Might try calling Capt Mike at Sunset Cay

I am very comfortable with the stono. There are 3 different routes in and out. Overall, I don’t feel that any inlet is hard to “read” if you go on low water and have a look, BUT I live on James Island very near the stono and could run the inlet with you and show you the routes if needed. I navigate them in the dark very often no problem high or low tide. Inlets always change but overall the stono routes have stayed fairly consistent for several years. Fear is never a fair substitute for brain power and confidence. Let me know
I run out all the time by heading towards the breakers and taking a hard left where the red buoy used to be, then down towards Folly and back out once I clear the breakers in front. I run a 26 ft bay boat so dont need much draft.
Yeah, we ran out of there today. Do it often. Ran out towards the Edisto Reefs. After running it a couple times and looking at low water s]you should gain confidence. No matter my memory or knowledge, I have the routes saved on my plotter and smart devices.

That’s been my route the last few years but haven’t run it this year yet. Basically out, then 90 degree turn left before shoals then back out once you clear them.
I ran out of Stono Inlet this past Saturday, and your chart with route looks accurate.

Awesome, thank you for all the help. We will give it a shot this upcoming week, if the weather works out to get offshore…
