Anyone running Penzoil in F150???

So i had this great idea of draining the oil in the Yamaha F-150’s, than running to West Marine on a Sat to buy oil.

I live in Murrells, so there was no other places open, and had a bunch of people ready to fish the next day. Get to West Marine, and they are out of everything!

SO guy at west marine called his “Mechanic” and he said Penzoil GTX is even better than Yamalube.

So i filled the up with GTX and headed out the next day.

The question is should i just run the GTX, or change oil again?
Thanks for the help as usual.

That’s all I use in my truck. Have for 11 years, but it’s a truck. I assume you are talking about a 4-stroke engine oil. All oil starts out out the same, just like gas. It’s the additives that change. Add the word Marine and you always pay more. Should be OK, but what does your warranty require. That where issues arise.

I was thinking of running a synthetic in mine maybe mobil 1. Anybody running it in theres?

Mobil 1 and never look back. I run it in everything, never had an issue…

Buddy told me you can run synthetics, but… You should run a half synthetic for about 20 hours, than change to full synthetic. Something about the half synthetic will clean the motor out.

He could have no idea… just what i have heard… might be BS?

I was wrong… was Castrol GTX
Have got about 25 hours on the car oil in the yammy’s and no caboom yet

I’ve never used “Suzuki brand or Yamaha brand” oil in any of my motors, they are good oils but as long as you change the oil when you should and use a name brand oil with the same API rating they will work fine. Mobil 1 oil, again is good oil but an over kill for an outboard

I have used Amsoil 10w40 full synthetic in my F200 for over a year now.

I have used Pennzoil and Castrol GTX in the past with no problems. Like others said, just check for the ratings your motor calls for and match it up and go. I have heard once you put synthetic in a 4-stroke, you can’t go back, but that is just hearsay. Yamaha and others didn’t even make 4 stroke oil when they originally developed the motors. Up until like 04’, 4 strokes did’t mention a specific brand in the books.

Oil designed for cars & outboards are not the same. oil designed for your car are not designed for 6,000 rpm’s. the oil designed for your car will foam up when spinning these kind of rpm’s; leaving lack of lubrication. yamalube 4M is from spectrum with a GL4 rating meaning it has more metal protecting properties. outboard 4 stroke oils also have anti-foaming agents.

How about Royal Purple for Marine use - anybody have any experience?

I ran Castrol GTX in my 200 Suzuki for 3 years. On the 4th year, I ran Suzuki oil. All oil analyses performed by Blackstone Labs www.blackstonelabs.com showed no problems with the Castrol other than 4% fuel dilution (mainly due to slow trolling for stripers before changing the oil). When they analyzed the Suzuki oil, the Sodium content was ~10x’s greater than the Castrol so I sent them a virgin oil sample and they confirmed the Suzuki oil had a much higher content of sodium than the Castrol I had run previously. Other than that, the oil analyses were identical. No high concentrations of metals, no water and no other issues…just higher sodium concentrations in the Suzuki oil.
