EDIT: this isn’t my gun, i just saw it while browsing.

Nic, if you buy one, post us some pix! No personal experience but I would expect the .50AE to be less than .500S&W for hand-spanking.

I don’t know your intended use for the 500 would be but I own a 500 and the 460 S&W. More often than not I reach for the 460 when I’m going deer hunting. I’ve shot pigs with both and they have about the same effect. The 460 has some cheaper ammo options for plinking (.45 colt) and better ballistics just some food for thought.

The s&w 500 is just a gun I have always wanted. Shoot a pig or two with it but mostly just to scratch it off of my list of guns to own. Do you want to sell your 500 or 460? If so PM me

I shot a .460 last year and just shot the .50 Desert Eagle. Is there any noticeable difference in the recoil when shooting the 500 vs either of those?

here is a picture of mine. 5.5 in barrel with comp.

here is a video shooting it with cor-bon 400gr. i will post a video later shooting silver tip platinum 500gr. the platinums are the hardest hitting you can buy from a manufacturer.

here is my dad shooting the platniums. you can literally taste the calcium from you teeth grinding after pulling the trigger.

For me the 500 has a stronger thump of a recoil like trying to catch a baseball bat being swung at your hand. The 460 has more of a pop to it but it’s still strong. I shoot 350 to 400 gr. bullets out of the 500 and 325gr. out of the .460. They are both fun guns to shoot and fairly accurate. The 500 get expencive real quick at least with the 460 you can shoot some colt 45 for a bit. If I bought the 460 before the 500 would have prob bought a .44 instead. I got the 500 for a bear hunt then got a soid deal on the 460. I have never shot a 50 DE.

Well I didn’t buy a 500 but I did find a .460 with the 8 3/8 barrel. Its pretty sweet. Here is a pic. Went out and shot it wabout 2 weeks ago…that was fun.
