I have a 2003 60 HP Mercury 2 Cycle outboard that is not cooperating.
Motor will start but there is no power when I throttle up.
I tried a few things and I’m at the point where I need some help. Anyone have a good experience with a mobile mechanic?
These are the things I tried:
o sea d just did some wiring on my boat and is coming back to fix my steering and service motor… they are highly recommended by a lot of people on here
I would try O-Sea-D Boatworks and Dan’s Mobile Marine. Non-mobile, Chris V @ Charleston Marine and Sean (Loopervet) at Tall Sail Marine is who I would talk with to help out.
It will start up fine and run rough in idle. When I use the lever to accelerate it will accelerate a little but then it stops at about 2000 rpm. Today I took the carbs off and cleaned them. It ran a bit better but it cannot get to the higher RPMs.
The compression is 125 on all. I’m kind of new to working on outboards.
I thought it may be the fuel pump and I rebuilt it. But it still has the same problem after the rebuild. Do you have some ideas?
To answer your question. There may be something wrong with the linkages you speak of. If I manually operate the linkage on the middle carb the engine does reach the higher RPMs. So something seems to have happened between the throttle and the linkage. But I’m not experience enough to see or know the problem. Thanks
I think I may have found the problem with the linkage. Thanks to you. I’m going to make an adjustment in the morning and see if it works. If it does not work I will let you know and then you can have a crack at it. What is your business phone number? I’m sure I will need your help in the future. You helped me out. Thanks
