I haven been wanting to get into surf fishing with the fly rod. To keep from buying a spare spool and getting a sinking or intermediate line, I thought about trying these versileaders to get my floating line down. Anyone used these? How did they work out if so? Here’s a link for those who haven’t seen these.

Personally I hate add on tips… they cast like crap in general… I always recommend integrated lines whether it be sinking or intermediate… if you’re not gonna use it much it might be fine… but if you’re gonna use it alot, just pony up for the extra spools… you’ll be alot happier in the end…

I agree with Mike… these are good short term/once in a while solutions. They work pretty good in my experience but casting them takes some practice, they are a little clunky and hard to throw but if you put som etime in it does get easier and smoother. if you treat them like a shooting head, keep your false casts short they work better… Going to try it with my switch rod and see if they work better…

Thanks for the input guys. I knew I would get some quality feed back here. It is more of a short term thing with me. I love surf fishing since I only love a half mile to the beach from my driveway. I figured I would just try this out. The closest productive marsh is 30 minute drive and the beach is a 5 minute golf cart ride. Hope to combine love for flyfishing with convience of surf fishing. Tried it a few times and it just isn’t productive with floating line. I will give it a shot. If its awful I will just leave the buggy whip for the marsh or maybe get a spare spool for Father’s Day hahaha.
