I’ve seen a few tide watches online and was wandering if anyone uses one. Pros and cons. How accurate are they?
Yes, i use a Rip Curl Tidemaster. This is my second one and i love it. I just set it to one tide station and make adjustments to time on my own. Its accurate enough to operate by and very handy having the tide and moon phases immediately accessible at all times.

As much as I’ve enjoyed fancy ABC (Altimeter, Barometer and Compass) and Tide watches over the years, with smart phone technology, I no longer really see the point. There’s an app for that.

I have a tide clock and a barometer on the wall in my “fishing room”/spare bedroom. Both rarely need adjusting and are pretty accurate. There are plenty of tide apps available on smart phones but i am not sure if there is a tide clock app or not. I use “tides near me” but am about to get that sea tow one as well.I think, with those apps, its good to check a few different ones because the locations available differ between apps. Also, the tide can vary a good bit between places located fairly close to each other. Therefore, it pays to check as close as possible to the different places you are going to be. For instance , the tide at fort johnson and wappoo creek bridge differ by about 25 min. The tide at wappoo bridge and Elliot Cut entrance differ by thirty min. Thus, Elliot cut and Fort Johnson differ by almost an hour. Jonathan, I know this has nothing to do with watches and doesn’t even remotely answer your question, but I thought someone may find it interesting and possibly helpful.

$15 - navionics app for the smart phone. Total gps with topo, fishing locations , and all tide stations with current speed.
It’s a no brainer… Uses no bandwith… No Cell signal required.
I was all for using apps on my phone but had a problem getting sea tow app to open and when that didn’t work I pulled up tides near me. It worked but took a long time to figure out what station to read. Maybe it’s operator error or my iphone 5 is a p.o.s. Either way I think a watch would be a bit more reliable. Folly fisher can you set multiple locations with the Rip Curl?
I’ve got a tide watch, several i-phone Apps, and GPS tides. But to tell you the truth I hardly ever look at them. I check the tides in my TideLog as part of my trip planning and just remember about when the high or low is and that is usually close enough for me. Half hour or so is more than enough accuracy. If I do recheck in while on the boat I use the graph in my Garmin GPS software. The advantage of the GPS is that you can click on the chart near to wherever you are.
