Anyone using avet Hx 4.2?

Hey I’m getting a new set of reels for the boat. I have been looking at those avet reels because they seem like great all around reels. I can rig them with heavy braid and use them for trolling for kings and dolphin and switch right over to jigs and bottom rigs on the way in and maybe even use them for jigging bluefin in OI if we get up there again. Anyone on here using them currently and know where I can look at them around the charleston area.

I have an Avet SXJ and love it. It is really tough. The only place in Chucktown that has them in stock is Charleston Angler in Summerville. Call ahead to see if they have any. I bought mine from Haddrell’s Pt., had to order it, but those guys will set you up right. I didn’t know they were made in 4.2, that seems a little slow for Kingfish. Mine is a 5.3. They make the LX and HX in 6.0 and 2 speed, may be a better option for a fast retrieve if you are trying it for jigging. You should also check out Shimano TLD’s. Hadrell’s carries them and you could probably build two or three combos for the price of one Avet. I have a TLD 25 for trolling and the clicker is nice and loud.

Everything I have read about Avet is real good plus they are built in the USA. I like the HX bc it picks up 37 inches per crank and can put out 28 lbs of drag, 22 at strike. They can also hold a buttload of 80 lb braid. I have a couple tlds but I want something that looks nice and will last forever. I’m thinking I’m gonna get them in the black color!

I’ve got an Avet HX 5/2 I got from phin a while back and even after he put it throught the ringer, with proper maintenance, it stills beats the **** out of fish. I’ve caught up to 250 lb Goliaths, quite a few sharks including a few Bulls in the 9+ ft range, mess of grouper and snapper, kite fished with it and have even used it trolling lipped plugs for mackerel/grouper on the reef. It’s one of the few combos that make it out on the boat most everyday. Solid choice
