If you can spend $700, there is a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 160, red, 2009 model up for sale upstate (the guy has two actually). It’s not a starter yak, but it’s a great deal. I have a 2008 model and it’s pretty spiffy (I bought mine from the guy’s brother). With the tide, I can make the mouth of MI from the shell landing in 15-17 minutes, without killing myself. You won’t need to be upgrading from that one any time soon.
Of course, I know a guy that fishes from a 9’ sit-in, probably cost him $200-250, and he catches fish, but that yak won’t go some places, or cover distances like a a bigger sit on top. Anyhow, those are pretty easy to find cheap on Craigslist.
