I recently purchased a 2895 Triton with twin 225 Yams. Seller agreed to replace the helm and correct a steering problem with the boat. I picked the boat up last week and it takes 10 1/2 turns to take motors from one end to the other end–which seems a bit excessive. I did some research but have had difficulty finding anything directly that states what the average end to end turn ratio should be.
Anyone out there offer any advice on what an appropriate turn ration should be? Or perhaps some could share what there end to end turn ration is on similar size boat–my boat’s LOA is 29-10, I greatly appreciate any insight.
The first thing to do, is not put that boat in the water. The second is to find out why your helm takes 3x rotations. Like he said above. should be 3-4 turns lock to lock.
Do you have hydraulic steering by chance? If so, sounds like a ton of air in the line.
Definitly a bunch of air in the system, as stated DO NOT use boat untill rectified, pretty simple to bleed air out with a fitting on helm, piece of tubing and bottle of fluid hanging. Shoot me a PM for more info if ya want, but can be a very dangerous situation if not corrected and system checked for leaks.
