My father-in-law has this boat and told its mine to use if I rebuild the motors. It has Johnson 80’s on the back. The boat has been sitting up for 10 years. I was wondering if the two-cycles were expensive to rebuild and how much more gas they burn than a comparable 4 stroke. The only comparison is my dad’s Evinrude 140 on a Renken 19.

Fuel economy is about half of what a modern 4-stroke or DFI 2-stroke. Even though rebuilding the power head of 2-stokes is not too expensive, the problem is finding all the other issues. Fuel and ignition issues can drive you crazy and add a lot of cost.
Yeah, I was thinking of rebuilding them to sell. Then pick up a couple of newer 4 cycles. Maybe in the 115-150hp range. I think the hull is rated for 300hp.

Yes. Would be better to just buy 4 cycles, which I plan on anyway. But maybe I can fix the 2 cycles for a few hundred dollars and be fishing this summer. I plan on doing a full resto on the boat in a few years. I could replace the motors then.

Does this Aquasport have the 12 degree hull, or is it the CCP model with the deeper vee and the high gunwales? If it’s the semi vee Aquasport 22-2, you don’t need to run twins. You really don’t need twins on the CCP model either. The 12 degree hull will actually plane out with as little as 100 HP, a single 150HP outboard runs good on a 22-2. Aquasports are weight sensitive in the stern, you’d probably be better off running a single.
