What is the thickness of the plates?
Tall Sail Marine
So, I’m interested in some plates too, but I can’t see the sizes of them. I have a mix of 3/8" and 1/2" plates. 6", 10", and 12". Had them about a year now and can’t really tell a difference between the two thicknesses as far as degradation goes. I only shoot 40, 9mm, 380, 45, and 22 at them though. And not hollow point. One of my idiot friends shot one of these plates with a AR15 (556) from about 50 yards and you can feel the divot in it. He was corrected quickly. You can shoot AR500 with high velocity stuff, but it needs to be at distance, so I’ve read. These are not meant for high velocity rounds and short distances, but are perfect for slower handgun use and a lot of fun to see the movement and get that “Ping” sound.
My set up was pretty easy and allows me to swap targets quickly if I want to. I’d suggest beefing up the chains if you do what I do. I went cheap on chains early. That didn’t work out. These new 3/8" galvanized work great and have lasted. There’s no reason, in my opinion, to go to 1/2", for me. The added cost hasn’t proven to get me anything. Besides, I like being able to move the targets with the smaller calibers, that’s why I’ll go 3/8" from now on. I have at least 1000 rounds on all of these targets so far, for what its worth.
