I believe the catch limit reduction from 15 to 5 also takes effect June 1st. Is that correct?
The short answer is no… I believe that the reduction from 15 to 5 is to keep the “season” open longer. I suspect that it will open up June 1 as scheduled and then stay open longer this time.
I hear tell they are thick.
Knotheads are thick in 60’ to 90’. For reel. Threw back some fatties a week ago. The gnarly blue and purple headed ones…
…because everything is a conspiracy!!!
4lb avg every drop in 50-130ft. If you’re having to measure to see if they’re 12", all you have to do is move a couple dozen feet. They are everywhere. When they open I hope and pray that everyone will PLEASE GET THEIR 5 per day of THEM OUT OF THE WAY SO MAYBE WE CAN CATCH A GROUPER without throwing back 20 mature red snapper and 100 very old sea bass. (to all the eco-ignorants out there: a vent tool, circle hooks and sportfishing tackle means that way less than 5% of what I’m talking about being thrown back dies from being caught and released so spare us the need to shut the whole area down for the sake of your clueless speculation as to the health of certain fisheries that are actually BOOMING right now. If I used electrics and didn’t know how to vent fish then it’d be a different story. I have never, in thousands of blackfish caught during my life, seen one that didn’t survive release.)</font id=“size1”>
Use live bait or jigs to target your 5</font id=“size5”> monster blackfish when they open June 1.
Cut bait will get mixed sizes, but the big ones will start swarming under the boat if you use bigger baits that “move.”

The irony of it all is that when only 5 can be kept, they’ll figure out some number of fish that we must be throwing back and killing (total BS), and they’ll also tell us how we are reaching total poundage faster than ever since every fish harvested will be record sized. Which weighs more? 15 two pounders or 5 four pounders?
More brilliant strategy to take more of our access and more of our freedom.
Those standing to make windfall profits off catch shares and blocked public access are high fiving one another more than ever…
Or are we going to have an announcement in 3 years that the blackfish population has miraculously rebounded thanks to proper government action to save us from ourselves?
We can only hope the new assessment this year is even halfway near reality instead of a total farse like everything else has been trending.
