That’s something to be proud of. Sounds like you have a lot of “native” birds staying year round. They say if they have good food they can raise 5 broods a year.

How many do you have shooting off the field during a hunt?

Distant neighbor has a field that looks close to yours, they put up an 8’ fence and still had an occasional deer get in. You got a good water supply close? That seems to make a lot of difference in dove numbers… imo.

“Why Bruce?”

No more than 3 guns in field, nothing larger than 20 gauge, 8 bird limit. Field is 15 acres, 10 acres fenced.

I can’t speak for Polly and his reasons but many like the more sporting aspect of a .20 or even .410 for dove and quail hunts. Also you have less lead put on your land.

I’d guess with the 3 gun limit and 8 bird limit, polly is trying to keep as many birds year round as he can and not rely on doves passing through. ? ?

“Why Bruce?”

To each his own. A 12ga will kill no further than a 20 and a 1 oz of shot is 1 oz . But not my field So it doesn’t matter. Number of birds and guns I understand.

What about weight and recoil , you failed to mention the difference. I didn't make the rules, and I have no issue with them. My responsibility is to plant, and manage the field, and try my hardest to keep birds September-January.

When in Rome…

poly, that’s a pretty field. I’m impressed. Nice work… What do you know about weed beds?

I’m equally impressed with the soil bed. I don’t see a weed in that field.
