Area around Parris Island?

I do not fish Beaufort much. Are you allowed to cut through the creek that makes Parris Island or do you have to go all the way around the point of the island to get between the Broad River and Beaufort? Thanks for the help!

Archers Creek is on the back side of the rifle range. I don’t know if they close it durning live fires or not.

So keep my head down???

be careful on the broad river side at low tide. All that above stuff aside, I have been through several times during the week and only once asked to clear the area.

Thanks, I will call before planning a trip.

Whenever the firing range is in use, there will be a Military boat position to block entry into both Archer’s Creek and Ribbon Creek on the Broad River side of Paris Island. There will be some Marines posted at the bridge crossing Archers Creek on the Beaufort side. If you go through Archer’s at low-tide, don’t come off plane on the Beaufort side near the bridge! It gets real Skinny!

How skinny are we talking??

Real skinny… Lol no seriously REAL skinny

I am running a 17T Pathfinder and if I run aground I am somewhere I shouldnt be. I just dont want to be running through there and catch a limb or something of that nature, that is just under the surface. If it is just sand or mud then then thats fine, I will just stay out of there on negative lows. Thanks for the help.

Mad do you go through there in your Scout?

Probably 1-2 feet, but I’d never even tried on a negative low tide, so it could get worse. I’ve almost made a mistake back there but got lucky and still worked my way out. Make sure you are keeping to the right as you make your way back to Port Royal (coming from the Broad). There’s kind of a cross over section right after you come out from under the bridge and I almost went left and would have grounded myself on some oysters. It should be centered on this map link: http://goo.gl/maps/AXKS7

Anyways, don’t go that way.

Oh and when you get to the sound, don’t assume the mouth of that creek is any deeper until you actually get well out of it.

As far as the firing range, we only went through after 12 on saturdays, or whenever on sundays. There is a flashing light under the bridge that is supposed to tell you when they are actively firing as well. If it is on, even on Sunday, its best to call and make sure they’re not firing. There’s a phone # on the sign right there (coming from Port Royal).

Assuming you are trailering yourself there you could just put in on the 170 bridge landing and avoid cutting through altogether. That way you might be avoiding… well some of the people that use the Port Royal landing. I was never really a fan of that one.

or better yet, check in at P.I. and put in on their landing. No dock but a safe place to leave you truck and trailer. Just don’t do it during graduation. Put you right out near the P.I. reef if you want to try that. Some nice Black drum out there now, if you can stay away from the itsy-bitsy rare BSB.

Exactly. It’s only a 15 minute ride from the Cheechessie landing to the PI reef.

I’ve met the men in the RIBs a few times and they aren’t very friendly!

I am primarily looking for redfish, I have found plenty of trout. If anyone would like to get me pointed in the right direction it would be much appreciated. PM if you have anything that could help me out. Thanks everybody for the help!

At the risk of giving away state secrets and making the natives restless…

I generally stay on the south side of the Broad River. If you put in at the Lemon Island ramp on the Cheechessie, run out to the Broad through Rose Island Cut and fish the Broad River side of Daws Island on high tide. Focus on the drains that run out. You will see numerous guide boats working the same bank. Do what they do, but give them plenty of space, a couple hundred yards is considered polite. It’s real shallow up there, don’t fool around on a falling tide. On lower tides the creek that runs through Daws Island usually has plenty of fish. There are enough fish there for all of us if we don’t get greedy or crowd each other.

That will get you started.

^^^^^^

That’s good advise. Watch your depth and follow the crab pots, low tide through that cut can be hairy, pretty much all around the broad can be hairy at low tide if unfamiliar with it. More than once have we ran out of cold “sodas” waiting on the tide in a new area. A lot more water to explore than you’ll have time in a couple of weeks hard fishing. After 35 years fishing this area, I still run across some new “good” spots.

depending on boat size watch your weather, the broad river past the 170 bridge can go from nice to doo-doo quick. Don’t rule out heading further up and trying around the burnt trusle on the right side (heading up river).
