ARS photo op 6/12/10

We set off like most of the fishing fleet to go trolling for dolphin and whatever would strike the lures. We left @4:30 am for the trip to the gulf stream. I pulled the throttle back at 160ft and went to start putting out the outriggers and rigging the baits. One major problem, I left the trolling lures at the dock! @$#@$#$%@! I was very upset with myself, felt like turning the boat around and go home, but elected to try bottom fishing and listen to the fleet as to the luck they were having. If the dolphin bite was hot, I would have rigged the naked ballyhoo lines, but it seemed to be quiet.

Fortunately, I did bring 4 bottom fishing rods and gear along with 5lbs of cigars and certainly had plenty of ballyhoo to use for bait. The 1st three drops did not yield much success. On the 4th spot, we did pick up 3 grouper. The next spot held a good number of BSB and Red Porgys.

On the last bottom number, the first person to drop his line had double of a nice gag and a BSB on the chicken rig. We quickly set up for the anchor drop. The next several drops led to 3 nice ARS, followed by some more grouper. We caught a large group of triggers, beeliners, and BSB in this area. After the current shifted, the next several drops, we caught the 3 large ARS!

I have learned, I will make a check list before I go again. The trip was not a loss with the crew coming home with a good number of grouper, other bottom dwellers and some great photos of the ARS! This is a trip I will never forget in many ways!

Nice save!

Can you believe they held those endangered fish out of the water for a photo and you can’t even keep them!! I would take these incriminating pictures off the web as I am sure SOMEONE will find that it is illegal!!

Nice catch BTW!!! Too bad they can’t find there way to the dinner table!

BTW I would change your ID name! Google your ID name and see if you want to keep it. Just saying!

Pretty bad, never knew that, a slight misspelling and it could go in the wrong direction! My ID name will change in September with the new boat due in.
