Different formats… first is DD MM.MMMM other is DD.DDDD… I prefer the latter as it’s easier to type into most s/w. I use Excel to manage/covert my #'s.
You can fairly easily modify a GPX file. Just open it in notepad, copy and paste the info from the post into the file and format it to match the others already in there. The GPX looks like this…
</wpt>
<wpt lat=“31.998430000” lon="-80.599070000">
<name>Hilton Head Reef</name>
<cmt>Hilton Head Reef</cmt>
<desc>Hilton Head Reef</desc>
</wpt>
Or you can also ctrl+F to search the GPX and see if all the names of points here are in the GPX.
The GPX file on the DNR site per andyb has the numbers but lacks a good short name and the description. I do have a much improved GPX of all the recent DNR numbers (more up to date than the above)… contains #‘s in DD.DDDDD, Waypoint short name like PA23-02 or such, then the full description like "2) 100’ barge"… so the waypoint short name matches the numbers on the DNR GPX and Adobe PDF. Now I can match the document and relative positions as I approach on my GPS and tell what’s down there. If anyone wants this “enhanced” DNR GPX, PM me your email and I’ll send it on. I’ll also put the XML text that can be saved as a GPX in a later post.
Anyone know if the Lowrance version of stuff will work with Simrad?
I have software that can make a Lowrance “usr” file out of any format (except Loran). If you don’t want to mess with it, PM me with what you want in it and I’ll send you the Lowrance formatted file.
Fritz, have you tried importing just plain ol .gpx into it? On a lot of the newer machines those brand specific files are no longer needed. I know my Raymarines use the .gpx files, not the Ray specific .rwf ones.
Here’s the link for anyone to download Capt. Coats’ GPX file. Just click the link and then hit download in the top right corner.
CaptFritz… you can import GPX file data to your Simrad. The GPX file needs to be in the correct folder on the SD card going from your PC to the Simrad. Most software related to lat/lon uses GPX by default.
UPDATE: I read through Simrad’s EVO2 manual… appears they only read Lowrance files… as far back as USR V4. I can create as USR V4 file with my software. Or you can purchase Simrad’s software for $30 which can read the GPX file and do the conversion/upload. Also you can “export” the old units #'s as a USR file and that should be readable by the Simrad.
Maps Unique electronic version. Download to an SD card, put it in the machine and magically loaded into your unit.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.
