I mainly use artificial baits. Probably 99 percent of the time unless I’m going for sheephead. On the lower right corner of page 29 in the new hunting and fishing regs, I noticed this:
Artificial Lure: means manufactured or handmade flies, spinners, plugs, spoons, and reproductions of live animals, which are made completely of natural or colored wood, cork, feathers, hair, rubber, metal, plastic, tinsel, Styrofoam, sponge, or string, or any combination of these materials, in imitation of or as substitute for natural bait. Lures or fish eggs enhanced with scents or salts are not artificial lures. Artificially produced organic baits are not artificial lures.
Does this mean that Gulp products or lures slathered up with Pro Cure are technically not artificial baits???
That would be correct----I used to do a lot of salmon fishing in Alaska on “artificial only” rivers, Pro Cure was not legal for use in these areas along with any salted or scented soft baits. I am only about 2 years into the low country inshore fishing but am not aware of any such “artificial only areas”? I primarily fly fish and use spinner with softbaits, and have become fond of the Z man line (!which is scented) along with using pro cure.
I guess that makes sense and must apply to freshwater in SC. I just kind of figured that any bait that never had a heartbeat would be considered artificial.
Yeah i always thought along the same lines, I live in the upstate and do a good bit of trout fishing in western NC, all of the delayed harvest trout streams are deemed artificial only and I have seen a guy get busted by DNR for using Power Bait which falls into that same category. Poor fella got nailed with a 200.00 ticket for not reading the fine print.
