Artificials for fall/winter

What kind of lures do you like to use and how would you work it? This will be my first year of fishing in the winter, so any help would be great.

Asked the same question last year. Hope this helps…

some of this is covered in the above, but here’s my $.02

weightless DOA’s free-drifted or under popping cork thru december

once it’s clear and cold, spooks and poppers for low light, grubs/DOA worked real slow in clear water, and spinnerbaits for tinted water.

Hey Barba, when you say weightless doa’s, are you just putting a worm hook into them and letting them drift with the current?

last oct-dec i did well with trout and reds by taking the weight out and leaving the original barbed j hook in, and simply letting them drift with the current.

best action seemed to be when it was falling once it hit an eddy created by oyster bars.

a few weeks after the shrimp were gone from the shallows, it stopped working for the most part.

Thanks Barb. What size hook do you like to use and any specific brand?

This time of the year I love to throw suspending jerkbaits. My favorite is the Suspending Rogue (Smithwick) in clown color.

GREAT bait Capt. Bob! I am partial to the Bomber Long A suspenders. Trout will hammer these stick baits.

I wish you guys would quit telling us about all these great lures. I feel forced to run out and buy them and they just add to all the other lures I can’t catch fish with. Gonna try my trout tricks this weekend.

Any lure with a slow sink rate like suspending twitch baits, DOA, and soft plastics on a flutter hooks. Don’t forget about topwater action in the afternoon of a warm day.

Don’t stress over all these different artificials you can buy. All you need is a 1/4 jig head and any sort of paddle tails. I suggest zman. Bounce it across the bottom and you can catch flounder, reds and trout very easily. Also jerk shad baits I have caught my biggest reds on.

“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman

Thank you guys I truly appreciate all of the help.

Dfreedom I feel the same way. It can get expensive if you try to buy them all at once.
