What would you recommend as a good lure for redfish and trout and which lure color for conditions (sunny/overcast)?
Hey Arc-
relevant topic and one that gets tossed around a bunch on the forum. guessing there haven’t been so many replies b/c this has been fairly well covered on some older threads. spend a little time searching the older material here and you’ll find a wealth of knowledge. generally speaking though, you cant go wrong with a trout trick and a few colors of zman or slayer paddle tail grubs. most folks would say that darker colors tend to be more productive during low-light conditions, while lighter colors better when it’s brighter out. good luck.
Thanks onefish, I was beginning to wonder why no one was responding.
Ditto on what he said for searching the site. Soft plastics can’t go wrong with a trout trick or Zman paddlerZ or MinnowZ, I like a redbone or Houdini color, even goldrush and badshad. but they just came out with a few new colors such a mulletron that’s supposed to be good. Those on a lead head jig or a weighted worm or flutter hook are lethal.
Also it doesn’t really make a difference for me as to low vis/high vis I just try to match the hatch, unless targeting a reaction bite like a TT. Plenty of fellas around here use topwatet plugs with great success in low light(early morn/late evening) I’ve personally never caught a saltwater fish on top but I’ve only tried 2-3 times…
Good luck!
Yea I tried some top water lures last time I was out on the water with no luck. Was using some mirrolure top water plugs that I’ve had pretty good luck on fishing down in Florida. I bought some berkley gulp bait, shrimp and mullet. Going to try those jigging on the bottom and reeling in slowly. I’ll have to buy some of those other baits you have suggested as well.
I’m a big fan of a 5’ Gulp shrimp with the tail pinched off, rigged backwards on either a weighted or non weighted flutter hook. Caught a red this morning on it out at the beach!
Top Dog is good for early morning topwater action.
A popping cork with a DOA ain’t half bad either.

this time of year. Super spook jr, immediately remove hooks and discard them. Replace them w Mustad KVD hooks (thanks for the hook suggestion raddaddy). I like the chart/black one. Some people say throw it at dusk and dawn but i throw it and catch fish on it all day! By far the most exciting way to catch reds and trout. The trout will knock the plug completely out of the water sometimes and the reds look like a German u-boat coming after it. It hard but if the fish misses it keep working like nothing happened and lots of times they will hit again. When fishing top water wait until you feel the fish to set the hook. Dont do it when you see/hear the strike. Its hard to do these things, but it will increase your catch percentage.

Ive been doing decent lately with the redfish magic spinnerbait, but putting a mission jighead on and a zman paddletail on it around the grass. Seemed to be working good on the windy days. Wife even got a flounder and largemouth on em in the same day. I saw a Zman Palmetto Bugz plastic anyone use that at all?
