Artificials for Spottails (Murrells Inlet)

Headed to Garden City later this week to hook up with the family. Going to target some Reds over at the tip of the north jetty at Murrells Inlet. I know I can get them to bite mud minnows on light tackle, but can anyone recommend some artificials to throw at them? Going to have kids in the boat…I’m thinking the artificials might hold up better to the continuous abuse!

Also any thing else there to target around the Inlet or just offshore. Are there any good spots along the rocks for sheepsheads with live shrimp. Taking my 191 Mako Classic down, so I should be able to push out a bit if weather permits.

I’ve caught them in that area on Saltwater Assassins (electric chicken color plastic paddle tail) and on sinking Mirrorlures in Spring when live bait was not readily available. I’ve also seen days where I couldn’t get one on an artificial and it might take an hour to catch a few mullet but every one would get bit. These days I’d probably try a Gulp Mullet or add some scent to some other plastic. But, I’d still have a live bait backup plan. Mullet, Menhaden, or Crab quarters would be good options.
