When throwing topwater baits, I just use braid, no fluorocarbon leader. A buddy of mine will use some wire leader because macks and blues have teeth but I’ve never personally used one.

Never fished for them here but, found big schools of Spanish down in the Boca Grande area in June. We threw spoons at them and everything seemed to work, though spoons with treble hooks seemed to have a slightly higher hookup rate. I don’t think they are very picky when in a frenzy.
