Ashepoo River/Hunt/Fish/Camping Bear Island

Me and a buddy are camping at Bear Island 10/14 - 10/18. He puts in for the SCDNR draw to hunt Bear Island every year and included me in the draw. So this is a hunting/fishing trip. I havent hunt for deer since college (35 years)…so it will be good to get in the stand again.

I have to decided whether to hunt or fish in the AM or PM…lol…that is a good problem to have!

Anyway I thought I would post this to get some help on ramps and hazards to be aware of. Any information will be much appreciated!

B&B Seafood out there has large tails for $7.50/lb for big 50+lb orders right now. Heads on shrimp is way cheaper

Thanks @Rapchizzle ! How about non ethanol fuel? Looks like I have drive into Edisto to get it…45 min drive. Any gas stations near bear island wild life?

B&B Seafood or Bennits Point (same place) has fuel, I havent been in a while but they used to.

843-844-2322 is the number, check em out.

ask @barbawang about the rock diving dog, hes dead now…not barbawang, the dog

Just talked to the folks on Mosquito creek, they have non e fuel, so you are good.

Misquito creek=B&B

EF and Rap have you covered, if you put in next to their shrimp dock at the public landing, just know that the tide rips. Commercial crabbers use that ramp every day, otherwise chill and all those folks are really easy going too. The lane closer to the shrimp dock tends to be muddier at low, so I always use the upstream side where the floater is

Mr Billie Baldwin used to have a lineage of black labs that lived at the shrimp house/landing, one of them about 15 years ago would beg you to throw his favorite rock into the water at the ramp, he’d dive for it and find it by feel like it was a sinking tennis ball, cool dang dog

Good luck on your draw hunt, we look forward to the report!

You’ll probably see chanterelles in the ditch on the left before you get to Bear Island thanks to the rains we just had

PM me if you want a few fishing spots around there

That wording was weird. I meant that the crabbers are awesome too. You can chat anybody up down there and learn something

This is exactly the kind of info I need. Thanks fellas! I really appreciate it! Looking forward to conquering new waters!!!
