ashley river blue cats

Anyone fishing the upper Ashley for big blues? I hear that this time of the year is good for them. Does anyone have any advice on bait and tactics? I have never tried for them and I’m just looking for a reason to get on the water. Thanks in advance!

PM Sellsfish.

Just put you a small deer leg, on a bottom rig and be patient!

Got2go- good idea, I didn’t even think about that. I know he cats fishes up there in the summer/fall.

Easy- that would be interesting lol. I was thinking more along the line of mullet or menhaden.

Pogie heads on bottom near structure. I usually anchor upstream of decent structure adjacent to deep moving water - a few lines directly at the structure with chunk bait for reds or even stripers, A pogie head with 4-6oz bullet sinker on big rod in the deep. The current will pull the bait to the dropoff - let it soak.
