I have a chance this week to hit that area in the yak. Was wondering if the bridge is ok to fish for sheeps and other fun fighters. Or am I wasting my time?
If you are talking about the US 17 bridge, which is what I’ve known as the “Ashley River Bridge”, it could be a good posibility but I’ve never targeted sheeps there. I have cought them below the James Island Connector bridge over Wappoo Creek so it would make sense that they are around the pilings of the Connector over the Ashley and the “Ashley River Bridge.”
One sign to look for is the barnicles and oysters attached to the pilings have been knocked off in spots. This is a likely sign that the Sheeps have been feeding off these crustaceans attached to the pilings. You can see this better on low tide.
If you are talking about the “North Bridge” over the Ashley, again I have not targeted sheeps there but I have cought trout, flounder and reds up that way and even under the bridge. A word of warning about that area, I DO NOT KEEP any fish I have cought up there. There have been and still are facilities on the North Charleston/Neck/Peninsula side of the river that dumped some nasty stuff in the river. It is supposively much “cleaner” these days, but I’d rather not risk it. I think fishing closer to the harbor and ocean is safer, but I’m no scientist, so make your own decisions. But the fish are still fun to catch.

There are 4 bridges that cross the Ashley and we all call them something different.
What road are you asking about?
