Ashley river railroad bridge

Does anyone happen to know how this bridge operates, for opening?

I’ve been looking online and can’t seem to find any information. I’m looking at a house just up river of the bridge and took the boat up yesterday but didn’t see any signs or contact info online.

I did see that it is apparently manned most of the time.

Bridge is just up river from RiversEdge Marina and has 3ft clearance when closed.

I ride up to it, beep the horn, and they open it.
Not sure about what hours it’s manned, but they open it anytime a boat’s waiting.

Unless there’s a train somewhat remotely close. Then they won’t open it. Got stuck up there waiting 30-45 minutes one evening shortly before dark trying to come back down, getting absolutely torn up by no-seeums. Train was coming but still that far out. Opened it up right after it passed.

It operates until 11PM. Beep the horn and they open it. Normally if they are waiting for a train they will come out and tell you how far away it is.

Awesome, thank you.

Agree 100% with above comments. Honk and they’ll open unless a train is near. Also, watch your overall height. it can get pretty tight under that bridge at high tide.

Since were all talking about this bridge I assume you folks are fishing the Ashley. My wife and i fish the upper Ashley near Jessen but we’re not having a ton of luck. Anyone willing to share some pointers. Any info is appreciated. Thx!

Fishing in the upper Ashley has been kind of weak this winter. It was modest before snowpocalypse; I have tried a couple times post the big freeze and not even had a bite above the RR bridge. I would take that with a grain of salt as two trips is not a very good samples size as the Ashley can be very fickle. I did do some catching down river on those same days.

Jessen Landing had 32F water just after the freeze with icebergs floating down it. I don’t think there will be much life up that way until it warms up a bit. hairball knows what he’s talking about.

Appreciate the info. I talked to a guy who said he was catching catfish at Eagle Creek which is just down river from Jessen. That was 2 weeks ago. I just want to catch SOMETHING. LOL!

I live a few houses up from the bridge and not only will it open as described above, but it will open on demand with at least 3 hours notice. I fish mostly offshore and have had it open at 5:30 AM a number of times. As for fishing in the river, I have had little to no luck with that, but truthfully I have not put much time into it.

I fished with old timer twice in Ashley. He swore by 1/4oz Black/yellow stripe beetle spin. Both trips we filled cooler with big crappie, chunky largemouth, trout, and spot tails. I seldom get up that way, but the beetle spin and areas still produce. It’s probably the most misunderstood and undervalued river in the area.

And, sorry I misled the topic into another area. I just got sentimental thinking of those trips.

Got2Go, great info. I’m planning on tossing a beetle-spin tonight after work. We’re putting in at Jesson. I’m also going to fish bottom for catfish. What part of the river were you catching w/ the beetle-spin? Upper AShley?

We fished around Archdale all the way to landing. Time on the water is the best lure, especially when you keep a log.

I live right there on the river. It is manned 24 hours a day. Honk your horn as others have said. Catfish run hard there in march-april. Reds have moved out to warmer waters
