Hi everyone, just moved to Summerville from BFE Michigan. I have fished all my life in the lakes and rivers here and my apartment complex has access and a boat launch for the Ashley and was curious about any tips or tricks of fishing it since I have never fished Salt or brackish water before. Tackle advice, technique, what kind of fish are mainly there and if they are good to eat, overall just looking for anything that would help. Thanks.
From the plantations all the way back up to Highway 165, the Ashley holds an incredible amount of large catfish. Flatheads, blues, and channels are all quite common. Cut bait on the bottom in deep holes in Riverbend’s will produce day or Night. Up river from Kings Grant fish a live bream on the bottom and you will catch plenty of big flat heads. From Magnolia plantation back down towards Charleston Harbor there are plenty of spots for redfish and speckled trout… In the winter time you will also catch striped bass around the drawbridge end up river towards Middleton plantation. Good luck

Good stuff right there^^^^
Sellsfish pretty much nailed it. Also, check out joining Summerville Saltwater Anglers. Great group, family oriented, and you’ll gain a wealth of knowledge. Maybe Optiker will chime in with more.
What kind of cut bait do you use? Will most anything work??
