Google “wiring bilge pumps”
You get tons of good info and diagrams.

Black is the negative, brown goes to your manual on/off switch, and brown with white tracer goes to output of the float switch.

Sounds like your replacement purchase was not a fully auto bilge pump.

“If you had to tell someone how good you are, then you probably aren’t that good”

One thing about auto float switches is that many of them have a time delay…about 30 seconds or so. If you pull up the float you might think it’s not working but it’s just the delay so it doesn’t kick on every time the bilge sloshes back and forth.

i had it out of water, filled the thing up with water and had to hit the on off switch to get it on and then pulled drain plug and the thing wouldn’t cut off.

Sounds like you got a bad one…I have always like the Rule Pump and the Float Switch seperate…

CAUTION:

You are about to exceed the limits of my medications...

Its a rule pump bought at boaters world…oh well

You should have a 3-way switch for “Auto,” "Off, and “Manual.”

The Brown wire goes to the “Auto” side of the switch
The Brown/White wire goes to the “Manual” side of the switch
The Black wire is the ground

PS - Go to Rule’s website. You should be able to locate a wiring diagram.

My 175 Scout has a auto/manual pump installed from factory. The dash switch is manual only not manual/auto. The auto side of the pump is wired with a fuse straight to the plus side of the battery before the battery selector switch. This is done because you will forget to select auto and the boat will sink when left unattended. This only works until the battery goes dead.

On further review . . .

. . . This is actually how my SeaFox is wired. I had to replace the bilge pump in my 1994 Key West a few years ago, and it had a manual + auto switch. That’s what I was remembering when I offered those instructions.

So 210 Scout, try:

Black = Ground
Brown = + Terminal on battery
Brown/White = Switch

It should work automatically when the switch is off.

If your using a separate float, it really doesn’t matter which brown wire you use for manual or auto.

sounds like its wired wrong
