Im in the market for a used CC around 20’-22’ with a 4 stroke and I have seen 04 4 strokes with 400hrs and some with 850hrs. Im currently looking at a 07 yamaha 150 4 stroke with 850 hrs. I figured 85hrs a year was about average. But was wondering what other people have seen the life span of a 4 stroke and what the average hours is usually normal. I feel like buying a used boat with 850hrs is to many hours but idk. I have heard of 4 strokes lasting for 1,200 to 3,000 hrs. Any input would help.
i have read 100 hrs a year is average but that is including people up north who only boat 4 months a yr.
I had over 800 the first yr i owned my boat and no i was not a guide
SAFMC you suck!
The harbor taxi guys have been putting around 8000 hours(yes, that’s eight thousand) on their four stroke Yamaha’s before re-powering, That’s about three years service for them.
If I had the choice of a very low hour engine vs. 100 hour per year engine of the same year, I’d pick the higher hour engine every time.

This was my concern when I was looking for a used boat. Seems that everything I was looking at in the 8-10 year old range only had 300-400 hours on it. That seemed too low, and I was worried about an engine that only saw little use.
I did end up settling with a 10 year old F115 with 320 hours on it. Luckily, the thing has been solid as a rock in the 40 hours I have put on it already the past few months.

average recreational use is actually only around 50hrs a years from what we see our customers use.
400-900 hours on a 10 year old motor would not scare me at all.
