I know some folks have asked or may be curious about how these Avet reels hold up after use. They look good and feel good, and they are priced well. I’ve gotten parts very easily through Avet when I needed them, and I’ve gotten good service from them when I needed it as well. What about normal servicing though? What about how the reel will look and feel after it’s been used a lot?
Well, I have owned the reel shown below for a little over 2 years. I only caught a few fish on it the first year that actually pulled much drag and could be considered even working the reel by any means. These were mostly 5-40# dolphin and a couple wahoo.
So I decided to let a friend take the reel for a season and use it on a well-known sport-fisher with his charters. He did this from May last year until the season was over. I have just now gotten around to doing anything with the reel because I figured it’s about that time of year.
This reel is spooled with 500yds of 100# spectra braid, and it had about 150yds of 60# mono on top. They liked the reel very much and did in fact use it on every charter trip after I loaned it to them to see what would happen. They put plenty of meatfish and also a few bills on this reel, which is a 30# class sized reel. It was mounted on a Star 30-80# standup rod that was on sale at Haddrells West Ashley.
I took the reel apart today and serviced it. I only had around an hour to do this, so I did not take the full double drag system apart to show it. Doing so would require taking 3 small clips off the drag plate, and I do not have any of these clips laying around in case I lost one. Nor do I have any of the 3 small springs used under this same drag plate (90% sure I’d lose one if I went to taking this part of the reel apart). I felt there was no reason to inspect the bottom half of the drag where the other carbon fiber washer is anyhow. There was no buildup or corrosion visible and the

I had heard that when I sold craftsman junk for Sears. I have a lot of my 1/2" drive stuff in Kobalt for that reason.
Who makes Husky/home depot stuff? One dude told me MAC and another told me matco. ???
I now have a Blackhawk set of tools as well just because I saw them dirt cheap and the set had a lot of specialty tools. I have not dealt with Stanley with any warranty issues on them yet.

That's why you get a business license and insurance to sell a product. I really am sorry to hear that you ran into that kind of problem but you had to know that you had it coming. Keep your chin up kid, they might make a tackle shop employee out of you before you know it. As far as the other thread is concerned, I never said I went offshore to check the inlet conditions. I'm lucky enough to spend a good bit of time riding my bike on Kiawah and I see what goes down on the Stono inlet end. I see 50' boats come and go at certain times of the year. Maybe you need to contact them, or just grow a set.

Cornwell is Cornwell,they have no other outlet but their dealers,sort of nice not haveing to compete against sears/home depot/lowes for the exact same tool with a different name…but in the end all tool companys are w*****s…

No wonder the craftsman 12pt sockets are just about worthless. I just about would not let someone buy them if I knew they would be using them professionally. Same with the non polished cheapo craftsman stuff. More of that stuff came back than we sold with the exception of fathers day, mem. day and Christmas. I would still rather have craftsman handtools than something with no warranty though. You cannot beat a Craftsman tape measure or tri-square for example. Buy it one time and don’t lose it. You can get new/rebuilt ones every week if you have the time to get into a sears.
I thought Proto bought Blackhawk and then Stanley bought Proto. At least the blackhawks I have still say made in the USA on them.

3)By all means, tell everyone that I am full of ■■■■ when I say an inlet’s marked channel 1/2 mi off the beach has only 6’ of water in it at low tide. Did you ride your bike out there to check the depth or were you just cycling on the deck of one the 50 footers that went through at high tide? Either way, I’m sure it’s better than a sonar transducer or the rods and cones in my eyes when I see white water and chocolate milk around the boat. I figure your perception is better than anywhere I could be coming from anytime we’re on the internet.
stanley actually owns mac,husky,proto,mac has been for sale for all 15 years i have been in the tool business…for a few years snap-on was the brunswick of the tool business,it has almost broke them.they acquire alot of debt with some of their purchases…

Had to move to Columbia for a job. Had to do it fast. Put the big screen, lawnmower, tiller, utility trailer, toolbox and tools, etc. in the paper for sale. (Also a galaxy ski boat)
Dude came with his girlfriend to check out the TV. Ended up liking the stainless toolbox full of tools. Ended up saying he would be back for more money for the TV but he wanted the tools and tiller that day and he would get the TV but he only had so much room in the van. They pull out a checkbook and tell me it’s her mom’s checking account. I ask where mom is. They say, “you wanna a beer?” They crack open two fatweisers out of the cooler in the aerostar. I am told mom is in a nursing home but they have her permission to get these things for around the house. They get mom on the phone and I talk to “mom.” It was good. Mom wanted the tiller. It was an awesome tiller. Mom wanted the toolbox full of tools- the 24V cordless drill too. Awesome. I’m about to get paid like $1600 bucks and another $1300 for the TV the next day. Oh yeah.
They write the check, and I get all their info. SS numbers, addresses, drivers licenses… everything. Why didn’t I know about certigy check processing?

They get the scaliwag’s bank on the phone. These are walhalla/westminster people I’m talking about getting on the phone, so we were getting somewhere. The lady’s mom’s bank tells us that they have been seeing crazy activity coming in on that account for a while. They put some older teller on the phone who knows the family. I notice that the this older model has the clicker and drag on the left side while the new Pro 30 has it on the right. Any reason for this?
On the check side. I have a buddy that was cutting up with the cashier in Wal-Mart and asked her what was penalty for returned checks. She told him $25. He asked if he could write her a check for $25 more than the total as to cover this charge. Well 2 manager signatures later and much pleading an apologizing he was allowed to leave with the merchandise.

I don’t think there’d be as much room for the auto-disengage on the right side as there is in the left side of these 30-sized reels especially. Seems like the right side is a better location for right handers anyhow. With the new clicker knobs, it can be cut off or on with one finger and they don’t get accidently cut off when somebody turns the handle forward like on the 4/02’s.
