Anybody familiar with an Awendaw Creek Kayak Landing? I can’t find it on any maps or websites. Would appreciate directions and ■■■■■■■■ if anybody’s been there. Also, any idea of the water situation at the landing at low tide? Oh yeah, directions to the fish from the landing??
Thanx,

I have never been to the landing myself, but if you get in touch with Kathie Livingston of Nature Adventure Outfitters, she can tell you all about it. She is a great person to book a tour with if you are not familiar with the area! Give her a call at 800 673 0679 or at 843 697 2075.

Take Hwy 17 North out of Mt. Pleasant. About 10 minutes past the Sewee Restaurant. Cross Awendaw Creek (small creek, but if you look to the right there is a shrimp boat blown up in a backyard from Hugo). Steed Creek Rd. is on your left. Another mile up look for Rosa Green Rd. on your right. Careful it is easy to miss. Drive all the way back and landing is on your left.
Creek is pretty swift on the outgoing tide. The launch has a little ramp built into it. However, the ramp does not go all the way to the water. The bottom of the ramp is still a good 6" above the water. It’s tricky to launch off the ramp if you’ve got a rounded bottom kayak and sharp tail on it. Seen many people spill it right off the ramp. No ladder or steps to climb back out either. Be careful. I have an Ocean Kayak Ambush which has a nearly flat bottom on it. I just slip it in the water first, then climb in.
Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■. I dropped Kathie an email tonite. Sounds like an interesting launch, but I’m anxious to try it.
Thanks again,

I agree wit TIE. Once you get in the water it is nice. Ive used this landing twice. I always gone to the right of the landing. Just listen out for motor boats. There are several private docks along the creek most with boats. There are several bends in the creek that are nearly impossible to see something coming untill its to late. But it is all-in-all a great place to be on the water. Do be carefull at the landing with nothing to hold on to and no real way to get yak out of the water with you in it can be very tricky. Have Fun and be SAFE.

quote:Adam, thanks for the ■■■■■■■■. I'd like to give it a shot, but it does sound tricky. The weight of my kayak is a definite drawback. I'll probably swing by and do a visual check of the ramp the next time I'm headin' to Chasn, before I haul my boat down there. Catch any fish there? Thanx again, ~OC~
Do be carefull at the landing...
not that this matters or anything, that boat never blew up in that back yard during hugo. the guy that used to live there built it and it had been sitting upright on blocks for years before hugo came, hugo just happened to lay it on its side. reitterating what everyone else said, you better eat your wheaties before you start carrying your yak down the ramp. have fun
I’ve been driving by that shrimp boat for years, wonderin’ how the hell it got there. Thanks for the landing tip.
