Awendaw Creek

My son and I put in at the new Forest Service landing off US 17 and rode the rising tide for several miles. Live and artificial baits did not do the trick but the scenery alone was worth the effort.

Hey Rockfish - Is that the one with the slide built along the walkway for getting your kayak to the water? I stopped by there the other day, but it looked like it could be a challenge. Did you use the slide? How did it go?

OC,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

This put-in is like the terrain, it’s unlike anything you’ve probably experienced. I’ll try to explain.

Our boats are over 14 feet and it would be a challenge for us to launch solo. The slide may be useful for < 12 feet if one is alone.

Tun right and you will eventually make it to US 17. Turn left and you will end up at the ICW at Buck Hall. The left bank is highly elevated, more so than anything I’ve experienced in the area. Flipper cruises this section of the creek for nourishment.

Hope this helps.

Is that the put in between Awendaw Creek and Buck Haw?

Mud

Mud,
It is between the creek passing under 17 and Buck Hall. Turn right at Rosa Green road and the landing is on your left. There is also a walking trail along the creek which takes you to Buck Hall in about an hour. This one of the most scenic paths around. Now that I think of it, it may be the terminus of the Palmetto Trail. Wear waterproof boots.

Thanks rock, just took notice of it the other day when I was up that way.
Oyster…doesn’t sound like the country club style put in that you’re used to up in at MI.

Guess I'll have to bring along the Cabana Girls to do the heavy work... :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey Mud - I drove by this landing a few weeks ago when I was in Chasn. It looks like a challenge, particularly with the battleship I’m fishing out of. Catchin’ any fish? I gave up on the trout early on up this way, but the black drum kept me entertained until the yankee weather moved in. I’m still waitin’ on those flats-fishing lessons.
