Awesome Day...12 July

Set out on Mighty Fine with an eager crew of 6 for some ledge trolling and bottom fishing. After prepping the boat and gear the night before, we showed up at the dock @ 0430 and slipped out of Ripley Light @ 0530ish. Idled past the Coast Guard station then put the throttle down. Then…Then…

We confirmed what we saw on our weather radar…the large storm, lightening and sheets of rain just out side the harbor…turned around…tied up at the RLM dock…went home…and back to bed.

Guess I should’ve posted this in the inshore reports section since we never made it past Ft Sumter.

Hahaha! Sounds like you are all ready to go tomorrow!

We hit the Gardens and the Sharpnose sharks would not leave us alone. 80lb mono leaders on our chicken rigs was not enough, we must have lost a dozen or so rigs to the eff’rs. Found some B-Liners near Y-73.

Then…

The big storm sent us high-tailing it out of there.

We were on Knot Normal…25ft Sea Hunt - white with white t-top.

Aside from all the sharpnosed sharks, we brought home 11 b-liners and 2 bsb. We would have had more bsb, but we were throwing the 13"+ fish back figuring we’d get bigger ones. Then the rain came…

My favorite spot was just on the other side of that storm... We had to go with plan B.

Skinnee, I must have been close to your favorite spot because we spent the night on the ledge and woke up to find that storm between us and home. You think it looks bad there, I think it looked even worse on the other side.

There wasn’t any lightening so we just kept going right through it. A little rain isn’t that bad

It sucks when you get in the middle and THEN the lightening starts. We watched a couple of storms for a few hours and the only had lightening for about 20 minutes. Only takes 1 jolt!!!

We went half way thru then sat and waited for it to stop, before we fished, this was saturdays storm.

Yes the lightning got bad but all you can do is wait and see.i can only guess the Gutwrench is not grounded very good…
