Awesome Day

Brought the kayak down today as I couldn’t resist the forecast. Threw the net to catch some bait but only managed about a half dozen FM, 2 mullet about 6" long and a ton of glass minnows. Kept the minnows even though I had never used them as bait. Paddled down to a spot I had been wanting to check out, tossed out a FM on a jighead, set my rod down to rig another and BAM. The line started screaming and before I could pick it up, the fish wrapped me around a dock piling and that was all she wrote. Tossed out another FM/jighead and BAM, another strike. All total, I caught 8 reds ranging from 20" - 29", lost 2 fish and caught 2 endangered BSB’s. Most fish were caught on FM, I caught 1 on cut mullet and even caught 2 on glass minnows (3 to a jighead).

The only thing that could have made this day better would have been if my son had been with me.

Did you work today?
Was the weather perfect?
Did you catch some nice fish?

Pretty awesome day, PERIOD! Good on you my friend!

nice work DF.

Mountain Dew or Crab Juice. Eeww…sheesh…I’ll take a crab juice.

Very nice. You represent the yak crowd very well.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

Hey Bugs, how do you fish those glass minnows for trout? I have yet to catch any of them and would sure like to.

Nice work!!!

When you can’t catch them anywhere, don’t fish everywhere. Focus, my friend, focus.

Doug…I have personally never used them…The President of our SSWA fishing club, Ralph Phillips said in a trout seminar he did for us that when you see those little tiny black birds that fly over the water in the 100’s diving down on the water…They are eating the glass minows and where there are glass minows there are trout because the trout love em…Like I said, Ive never used them for biat because i usually buy Mud Minnows…don’t throw my cast net too much…I guess if you can hook em through thier eye socket or lips on a little 1/0 circle hook either under a popping cork, on a carolina rig, or on a jig head fished slow along the bottom, that would work…those rigs work great on trout with a mud minnow…don’t see why the trout wouldn’t tear it up with a glass minow on it!!..if you try it and it works, PM me and let me know…I’m curious!!!..Good Luck!!

nice pic dfreedom…

I’ll give it a shot the next time I am out Bugs. Thanks.

I’ve trolled live glass minnows on a jig head behind the yak and had lots of luck with the trout! They do love em!
