Awesome Friday

Took a mental health day on Friday and the wife and I went to the “therapist”. Got to Dawhoo landing about 9 AM and were at “our spot” by 9:30. First cast was a beautiful copper 22" red and it just went on from there. The final tally for the day was 35 fish between the two of us, with the wife edging me out 19- 16 after being behind most of the day. 31 reds and four trout were caught and released. Biggest of the day was right at 27" with other sizes ranging from 16" to around 24".

Live shrimp (caught in our backyard) was the bait on choice on popping corks. Not a single fish was caught on the bottom rod with live mullet, but something kept biting them in half. A couple of caught blues (not counted) on the poppers revealed the culprit. Reeled it in and fished all poppers the rest of the day. Only one stingray to deal with and the reds were hungry and active. We caught fish on the incoming, full, outgoing and almost dead low tide. All of the fish were healthy and provided plenty of action. We only moved to avoided getting stuck on the outgoing tide and never really left the original spot. We have done well at this spot before, but never caught this many big reds at one sitting.

Beautiful day on the water with temps. about 80, water at 72, with a west wind, and a high pressure system sitting over us. We lost one popping cork to a bruiser and he took it way up in the weeds and retrieval was not possible. A truly enjoyable time with the best fishing partner in the world :sunglasses:. The lady does everything from catching bait to driving the boat and her fishing skills are top notch. Going again next weekend, but this day gets a 10 in my journal.

Tight lines to all and be safe out there, Mike.

I will hereby claim the title of “Most Read But No Replies” topic for October.

Went back to the same spot this past Saturday with my oldest granddaughter and youngest daughter. We managed about 20 redfish while fighting the crazy NE wind and high tides. Again, shrimp under a cork was the bait of choice. Daughter managed a beautiful 24" red to take top honors. We ended up with 6 slot reds which she needed for a fish fry. Ride out was nice, but coming in was crazy. After we made the turn from ■■■■■■■ Cut and headed North, there was some sort of sea foam line that split the river in two. On the one side of the foam the water was calm and the other side was rough. Chose the calm side and headed to the hill. When we got to Watts Cuts, there were swells the entire length and we had to reduce speed and hug the bank. Weirdest boat ride I have been on in these two stretches of water.

Nice day except for the wind and the stream of snowbirds headed to Florida. Water temp. had dropped to 68- 69 and we were under a high pressure system. We thought the high pressure might cancel out the NE wind, but it seemed to be a stalemate. I wish now we had fished on Sunday, but our schedules would not allow it.

I did not know that pictures were a requisite for getting ■■■■■■■■. I have a few photos, but the process has been rather tedious in the past. Anyway, thanks for contributing.
