This!!!
That is awesome
There was a guy on here named Harold that waded in the gulf of America for trout
He really slayed them
I miss his posts
Reckon he’s dead by now
Dizzamn LOL… I hope he’s just not posting here and on this side of the dirt hahaha
Harold Wilcox is alive and well, he spends time between his home in Tennessee and his fish camp around Venice La.
He caught his first sailfish on my boat a long time ago and he taught me about jelly balls and spades when Bill Clinton was still in Arkansas.
He’s a good one for sure sman. He sells BBQ sauce now on the side.
Jay is on the Mount Rushmore of current trout guides. I have deep respect for him in how he gives back by teaching others and also by promoting conservation.
I took note of Jays comment on “reeling into the fish”. I think that’s a good way to describe it. I also noted that he uses a bait caster. That’s something I have never considered using for winter trout.
If you take the time to learn how to use a bait caster (adjust tension, thumb drag, precision, etc…) you will always use them. I still use both, but for precision, power and longevity a good baitcaster is hard to beat. There’s a reason all the pros use them, probably a few.
I still have my baitcasters…just never considered using them for trout
I’m giving up my spin casters for Lent. I’ve got some Shimano Calcuttas and Penn 955’s that haven’t been wet in a few years.
Let’s listen in…
I seen opti out there with his baitcaster
You can have my Zebco 33 when you pry my cold dead fingers from around it
Hey sman, check these out. I bought these for the first boat I ever owned back when tricky dick Nixon was running the show. At the time the new Zebco 404 was the cats arse, lol.
The Mitchell’s were top of the line back then. boy how times have changed
I still use these Penn Peerless 9’s occasionally, but they are spooled with lead core now for odd special duty stuff in the river.
Thanks for the reminder
Wow
I wish I could hold on to some of my old stuff
Still remember the sound of a Mitchell 300
Nothing like it
I like both kinds of reels for different purposes. I can’t work a topwater the way I want with a casting reel, so I only use spinners for them. I prefer a casting reel for jigging and suspending lures. My wrists like when I use both
