Hopped on the Greyhound up to Pawleys to stay with some family friends and fish this weekend, found some great action in the waves. Hutch scooped me in Georgetown on saturday afternoon and we headed to the beach. Had trouble hookin up on the high water, caught one undersize flounder on a clouser then headed to a flat. Got there and found some tailers but Hutch’s fish were mighty spooky and the sinkin line i had rigged up was a joke for flats fishin. Went back out on the beach later that day with low water risin, caught my first stingray on the fly and a handful of bluefish, with my personal record that went 7 on the econoscale and took me into backing, and a spectacular leap in the furthest set of the breakers. Hit the north side the next day and caught some whiting on sand flea flies in a trough, and some spanish in the channel on clousers, my first spanish from the shore i was pumped. Fished with Hutch again that afternoon but only managed one hookup with the hook pullin. Woke up this mornin for my last outing and found the wind howlin, took the kayak out to the mouth of the creek on the beach and casted for about an hour with no success. as soon as tide started to flow back in the spottails and blues started blowin up on mullet real close in and managed to catch a couple slotties. I was throwin a big flashtail clouser on my 8 with a sinkin line. Now comes ones of those events that scar you for life and do a real good job of teachin you lessons and makin you a better fisherman. Throwin that big clouser around the erupting school of mullet i set the hook on a giant bass, within ten seconds he had me deep into my backing and past the last set of breakers. A couple that was sitting behind me on the groin saw me running down the beach after the fish and followed until he stopped burnin drag and i stopped runnin. I was undergunned with the 8wt but felt like i had solid control of the fish and after thirty minutes of goin head to head with the fish i got a visual on his huge broom tail. This fish was a
