Baby Sturgeon?

Two weekends ago while beached on a sandy point in a creek off of Stono near Sol Legare I saw what looked like a baby sturgeon come swimming right up to about five feet away before turning and continuing back into deeper water. Has anyone else seen this before? I’m doubting myself and thinking it must have been something else, but if you do a search on the Googles for baby sturgeon that’s exactly what it looked like. It was maybe 24 inches or just under.

It’s possible. Other culprits around here are the gar and needlefish. I’ve seen larger sturgeon in the Ashley just behind the baseball stadium, so they are around.

2 years ago, I saw a pair of baby dolphin (Yes, mahi) in James Island creek.

seen a few around Otter Island while shrimping!

Pretty sure I just saw a very large sturgeon breach the water in the middle of the channel while traveling the Cooper a couple of days ago. Was definitely NOT a dolphin.

Very possible you could have actually seen a baby sturgeon. I saw a full grown one free jump in the middle of the stono just upriver from Sol Legare about a week ago.

They are in the stono.I have seen several over the years.
