baby TARPON ponds

o

Just to be sure, are you not possibly seeing Ladyfish, which are very close relatives of the tarpon. Would look like a baby tarpon.

I agree, seems you know some areas. Let’s share them.

I could trade a couple of places that have some door mats, but it wouldn’t help you much as they are off limits except to a few lucky individuals.

Where does he get the baby tarpon to stock?

I plan on living forever, so far so good

Cant help. But, like all fisherman I have a story. Only tarpon I’ve ever caught was in a pond in Savannah, when I was about 13 years old. That was 23 years age.

Tarpon fry can swim through spillways at higher tides to get into ponds. Same way redfish, trout, flounder, lady’s, trout, mullet, hadens, and pinfish get in. Most poon ponds were not stocked. Poons obviously dont like the cold though, february might be a little early to be thinking about it. Coupke winters ago had ice on the surface of the pond by my house, and guess who was frozen in it…

Pond fishing was what I lived on as a kid, and there are plenty of kids out thrre that look at this site. No reason not to bring it up on here since there isn’t a saltwater lagoon fishing forum.

i made this up but i think it’s true

I have netted small tarpon (around 6") in various coastal impoundments. Seems to be a regular occuring species in these habitats. I have often wondered about over winter survival and how far the larvae have traveled. I’ve never found or read a study on this. Just interesting

This is the first one I ever put my hands on. I dont know much about them either but, this one survived the cold and seemed to be doing fine after those two cold winters. He also had several buddies with him. I caughth them in September though. They were agressively eating paddle tails that evening.

There ya go, just like those of you who said we didn’t have Snook caught here.

I was flipping through old pictures the other day and found a black an white photo (black and white by choice) of my first pond tarpon. I was so pumped!! Poon ponds are an awesome thing, keep exploring. All the ponds that back up to saltwater are worth a look.

Try the lagoons close to the marsh on the Club Course fairways. I cant remember the hole as it has been a loooong time. They are there.

A guy last year caught a red from his couch, in a pond behind his house. Daniel Island I believe?

This year same guy weighed in a 25 Inch trout in a tournament, photo shows he was standing on Mud/sand. Couldn’t possibly be the same pond could it? (also weighed in a 23.75 inch trout. 2 gators in the same day?) http://www.lowcountryfishscales.com/2013/LifePoint13/LifePoint13_Pics/LifePoint13_Pics1.htm
Why not mention saltwater ponds?, If I had a pond like that in my back yard i’d sell my boat! LOL
Seems like you can catch everything else in a pond why not a tarpon.
