My mexican guide recommends a 9/10 wt. floating line for baby tarpon on the Yucatan. He tells me 20, 25, 30, 40 lb. leader. Does that seem too heavy for anyone? Never fished baby tarpon before, and I’m no expert at fly fishing. Thanks.
That’s exactly what you want. Caught a ton of them in the Keys on my 8, 9 and 10 weight. Shrimp Gurglers are good flies for them

I used my 6 weight Redington Predator with a 30 flouro shock tippet. Make sure you use clear (not pink) flouro. I would bring a selection of gurglers as well as black and bright colored ep / sf streamers. Having some intermediate line helps as well. The water will switch from a dark green color to clear as the tide falls in the estuaries. Use the black colored fies for stained water and as the water clears up, they pick up on the brighter colors. It is a riot. The hardest part is reminded yourself to strip strike. You are going to have a blast!
