Back creek flats slam, lots reds n flounder

The basics
I hit a spot that i know holds flounder and reds at low tide. The depth ranges from a few inches to about 3 ft at low tide. I fished a 3 inch gulp white swimming mullet and a 3inch zman slim swim in the deal on a 16th oz jig head. The shallow low current waters are perfect to slow a lite bait periodically bumping the bottom and pausing. I cast to a area i like and count to 3 to let it sink and often a fish would hit or hook up during the first 3 seconds. I like to let it sink to the bottom and then start retrieving with my rod tip as close to the water as possible and reel just fast enough to keep it just of the bottom. I should feel it bump rocks, oysters, weeds and sand hump/waves. I caught a few flounder that were in the dips in the sand waves and a few coming off the edge of oyster humps. The reds were right at the bank edge and around oyster humps. There were also flounder in the middle of the creek in the channel. I caught a little trout on the incoming and only my second of the year.

Story time
There were 3 seperate schools of reds in the 1 area that were feeding there but traveled seperate. 1 school with over 50 were about 10 to 15 inches and then another larger school of reds about 20 to 27 inches with about 15 of them and about 5 or so 30 to 40 inchers. I army crawled over to try to get a good pic of the action but i spooked the egrets that then spooked all the bait when it took flight and the big reds took off waking out crossing the hump to get back to the main creek and it was surprising to see them there because there are never reds that big back there. I knew there was 1 big copper red (i want to catch him) that came back there that was 35 or so inches but i guess he told some buddies were the buffet is at. The big guys completely spooked out and that was the last i saw of them and the mid size school was right at the edge of spooking and where hanging close to the hump acting nervous. I laid on my stomach and waited, within a few minutes the bait is back to normal

dadgum, I had to take a pee break half way thru that story…good stuff…knowing where you fish a lot, is this area behind Morris or Folly?

Nice story. Seems like you’ve got a great spot there. It’s always fun when you’re having to think about spooking the fish and being aware of your surroundings. That is one really clean flounder! When you can see the wrinkles in your hand when you hold it behind the fish, you know you’ve done well.

Thanks for being informative with your lure selection and placement. That kind of info is very useful. Much better than posting a pic and saying “Look what I got”
